The building was originally designed as education complex by famous architect Arthur Skepers in 1969. It was a great sample of ‘70s architecture. The building was empty and abandoned... without any kind of life or function more than 10 years until its owner decided to change its use into a high end residential complex. For us, it was a great challenge to transform the old school into a state of the art serviced Suites complex keeping alive the conversation with city’s collective memory and old uses.
Our approach was inspired by idea of diversity and transformation ... as a school is an alive place of communication, diversification, transformation and conversion for its students and teachers ... we imagined a wide range of styles for the apartments as well as a moving façade.
The building has totally redesigned and reconstructed. The beautiful external moving metallic façade has transformed the building in a regional landmark. The transparent pattern of the façade allows the light inside giving a wide spectrum of feelings during the day. The moving parts of the façade change the total view of the building creating the feeling that the building has several views.
The Duke celebrates the minimal architecture and emphasizes the simple but beautiful interior. The complex consists of 14 spectacular suites and a great multiuse space in four storeys. Natural materials like wood and marble in combination with simple painted surfaces and modern furniture create an outstanding total.
